OSAKA CITY

Osaka is a city built upon the prosperity of its waterways and ports. So the structure called, Miotsukushi, with which people were familiar with through close identification with the Osaka port, was chosen as the city emblem in 1894.
During the Edo period, various art forms flourished in the Kansai area like dancing, acting, as well as Noh and Kyogen. Also, Kitahama, Yodoyabashi and Hommachi areas where wealthy merchants worked, are known to be a treasure trove of modern architecture. As for music, Osaka's classical music scene has various talents who command center stage both nationally and internationally.
Downtown Osaka offers shopping options like items for the professional cook from knives and pots to wax food samples like miniature sushi and key holders. Also, there's Den Den Town, a haven for just about any fan of electronic appliances.
The uptown Umeda area offers a range of above and underground shopping areas where shoppers can eat, socialize and browse among some of the top fashion stores in Japan.
